My roommate Alexis Fecteau and I have a shared passion for movies and we love nothing better than indulging in marathon film-watching sessions. Something which we normally try to do is to spend a day watching box sets of movies with their sequels, to truly digest everything that is great about a story being told in this way. Over the festive period Alexis and I have spent many days completely removed from the world, watching some of our favorite movie box sets, and here are some of the best if you have the time and the energy.
Lord of The Rings
The 3 Lord of the Rings movies completely changed the way that we watch movies and the extended editions which you can buy feature almost 10 hours of film. This is an epic tale which sees a young hobbit being tasked with the responsibility of destroying a powerful ring, and the saga which JRR Tolkien wrote about has been perfectly portrayed in this epic movie franchise. If you are feeling particularly ambitious then go in for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy, which combined will see you binge watching for 19 hours and 39 minutes, a wonderful way to spend your day!
Planet of the Apes
For a slightly shorter bing watch, you could decide on a marathon of the modern-day Planet of the Apes movies, which clocks in at 6 hours and 16 minutes long. The three movies are Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War of the Planet of the Apes, which tells the story of a post-apocalyptic world with humans and smart apes, who struggle to coexist together. A brilliant trilogy of movies and a wonderful way to indulge in some great entertainment.
Star Wars
We did endeavor to devour all of the Star Wars movies in one day… excluding the 2019 release which hasn’t hit streaming services just yet, but the 22 hours and 30 minutes of watch time meant that Alexis and I had to spread this over 2 days instead. Nonetheless this is an epic movie marathon which I’d recommend that everyone does at least once. The marathon includes Solo: a Star Wars story, and you can watch them all in whichever order you like. Star Wars aficionados believe the best way to watch is the machete order, which skips on episode 1, my recommendation is to watch in the order that the movies were released, in order to truly grasp the story and the world of Star Wars.
Grab your snacks, plenty of fluids and get a great night’s sleep before you indulge in any of these movie marathons, and make sure that nobody needs you for anything. You may even want to switch your phone off ahead of a mammoth session like this, nonetheless a great way to spend your day.
