All over the world there are some amazing men and women who give up their time to invest in helping and supporting others. This was something which I had wanted to do for quite some time, and last month I was invited to help out at a local orphanage, to help the girls who lived there with their studies. The reality was that I genuinely had wanted to volunteer in the past, yet if I’m being honest I could’ve done more to make that happen. Thankfully me good friend Pietro Triassi Montreal have me the opportunity and based on my experience so far, here are some reasons why I believe everyone should volunteer.

It All Helps

Whilst I may not be a teacher, simply by virtue of being older and more experienced I have been able to greatly help the girls. When I used to think about volunteering I was always at a loss as to exactly what I would do. I don’t have what you would call a specialty in my career, which made it tougher to know how to help. Regardless of who you are or what you are good at, there is always something you can do to help, even if it’s just speaking and listening.

It Feels Great

To me there is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling good about yourself after volunteering. This was never the reason why I did it in the first place, but I refuse to ignore that feel good factor which you get, knowing that you have been selfless and helped others, with no reward to yourself.

Necessary Support

There are so many homes, organizations and charities around the world which simply wouldn’t be able to do the great work which they do, were it not for volunteers. If we don’t do it then who will? Another point to make here is that these volunteers help charities to do amazing work now, imagine how much better that could be if everyone volunteered their time.

There is Time

I worried a little when I committed to these 4 hours per week, thinking that my life would fall apart with an extra commitment. The reality of course is that I most certainly do have time, there is always time to spare for worthy causes. The same is probably true for you, on the face of it you probably think that there is no time, in reality, there probably is.

Continuing the Cycle

I speak to so many volunteers who had help when they were younger in some capacity. What this means is that there is a wonderful cycle of positivity that begins when you help people. Beyond this, some of my friends have started to volunteer too, because of me. This means that you can also inspire those around you to give up their time as well.

The more people volunteering around the world, the better we can make it and the more together we will feel.
